Chris Forsey studied Art and Graphics in Bristol in the 1970’s. On leaving, he followed a successful career as an illustrator, where he worked in advertising and publishing.
In the mid-eighties, however, he turned his hand to painting landscapes in watercolour. Since then he has exhibited on numerous occasions with both The Royal Watercolour Society (RWS) and The Royal Institute of Watercolour Painters (RI).
He has also taken part in successful group and two-man shows in Surrey, Sussex and Oxfordshire. In addition to this he has had several solo shows.
Chris has exhibited in galleries in the UK and abroad. Recently his work has been much in demand in France and Corsica. He has just been elected a full member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour.
In 2006 Chris was awarded the F. Donald Blake prize at the Royal Institute of Watercolour Painters for one of his watercolour paintings of Polperro in Cornwall.
He is an impressionist at heart, and has has extended his watercolour style to include Gouache, Pastel, Acrylic and Ink . He often combines some of these media in a single painting.
Chris draws inspiration from the landscapes of southern England, the coasts of the West Country and the bright sunlight and strong colours of the Mediterranean.
He tries to capture light and form in a personal and interpretive way, working from copious notes, sketches and photos that he will then translate into finished works in the studio.
Chris teaches through his own painting classes, and he runs courses and painting holidays in the UK. He also tutors painting for a holiday company in Greece.
