Born in 1987, Gary spent a large proportion of his childhood in Galicia, Northern Spain. It was here that he discovered his love of the natural world and that painting was a captivating form of self expression. He first formally studied painting in Galicia under Jose Luis Perez Alaez, assistant painter to the late Salvador Dali. During his development he found great harmony that could be achieved through the process of making Art. He went onto achieve his Fine Art Degree in 2009 after studying in Devon and Cornwall. In 2008, Gary was awarded the ‘Beth Levinsky Arts Award’ from The University of Plymouth, this funded an extensive journey through Europe and reaching North Africa. Gary’s paintings can be described as atmospheric, expressive, and layered. He captures the constancy of a place juxtaposed with the fleeting sense of elemental change and transiency of the landscape. A unique element to his paintings is the inclusion of site specific natural, organic material which is collected on his journeys. Gary has work is several collections worldwide and has recently completed a large scale commission for Rendall and Wright Interior Design. Currently, he lives in Hampshire with his wife and daughter and is Head of Art at a school in Dorset.
